The Miami County Amateur Radio Club is
located in Troy, Ohio. We hold monthly business meetings at our
clubhouse, 728 Harrison St. in Troy, the second Friday of every month at 7:30PM. We
support many Public service events including the Troy Strawberry
Festival, and many bike tours and marathons. We also provide
emergency communications for the surrounding Miami Valley in the
event that such a need arises. Among our many other services and
activities we also hold an annual Field Day event, and provide
Amateur Licensing classes every Spring.
We own and operate the W8FW 145.23 mhz (-) repeater. With our antenna located atop the Time
Warner Cable tower in Troy, we have a very wide coverage area
throughout Miami County and surrounding areas. Join us every
Sunday evening at 9PM for the Miami County Emergency Services
Net. All are welcome and encouraged to check in!
The repeater itself consists of a Motorola
MSR2000 Transmitter/Receiver/Power Supply, an ACC RC850 Repeater
Controller, and a TX/RX Duplexer. The Antenna is a 6db gain, 4
bay vertical dipole array, 320 ft. above ground level.
System Effective Radiated Power (ERP) is 56 Watts.
We are also currently operating a Packet Radio Mailbox, W8FW-1 on 145.050 mhz.
This mailbox is operationing 24/7. The system runs 1200 baud packet using a PK232 TNC with only 18KB RAM storage. The system transmits an ID
Beacon every 5 minutes it is on the air listening. Any
questions or comments regarding the Mailbox, contact
David Robinson WB8PMG.
Our club is membership based, only $10.00
per single person for a year, or $15.00 per family for a year.
Five officers are appointed yearly by the members of the club to
oversee and run the business side of things.
